About Clover Hill and Chef Charlie Mitchell
Clover Hill is an intimate, 20-seat restaurant located on a leafy, cobblestone block in the heart of the Brooklyn Heights Historic District.
Clover Hill seeks to blend the best elements of old and new school fine dining. We believe that eating should be fun and that food is always best when it comes from memory.
Chef Charlie Mitchell, a Detroit native, has made significant strides in New York City’s culinary scene. In 2022, he became the first Black chef in New York to earn a Michelin star at Clover Hill, a 20-seat fine-dining restaurant in Brooklyn Heights.
Mitchell’s culinary journey began in Detroit, where he was inspired by his grandmothers’ Southern cooking. He moved to New York City in 2016, working at esteemed establishments like Eleven Madison Park and Jônt. In 2022, he took on the role of executive chef at Clover Hill, focusing on creating a welcoming fine-dining experience.
Under his leadership, Clover Hill received a Michelin star, making Mitchell the first Black chef in New York to achieve this honor.
In June 2024, he was named Best Chef in New York State at the James Beard Awards.
In July 2024, Mitchell transitioned to become the executive chef at Saga, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant in Manhattan.
